I am echoing one of the words said by Argentinian revolutionary Comandante Ernesto “Che” Guevara. He fervently believed that US imperialism can only be defeated by force that is why he also said that we must create one, two many Vietnams. A couple of days ago, as the world is still celebrating the new year, Pax Americana struck again. This time, they savagely attacked Venezuela, violated its sovereignty and worst, kidnapped the duty elected President Maduro and his wife, the First Lady.
Indeed, as one colleague said: “US did two things. Besides the possible acquisition of the oil reserves in Venezuela, the military was able to show China and Russia how to do special operations as a warning.”
My response: perhaps, but the imperialists and the neocons have also given an idea or permission to the Russians, the Chinese and the Iranians to pull off the same thing. This is a grave universal precedent. If the Yankees can do it, then we can also do the same. The Americans can no longer claim that they are the biggest dog in the neighborhood, because there are so many bloody big dogs now in our fragmented global village. I do not know if those idiots know that they are playing fire. Are they so moronic that just to save their dying empire they will do everything so outrageous and so hideous that their barbaric act has created a new theater of war, a new Vietnam?
There’s the rub. Yet, we all know that based on the empire’s perverted mind, there is nothing that they cannot do, whoever it is, whenever they want, wherever they want it, they will do it and they will get it. But then, are they aware of the consequences of their latest escalation?
Their act of aggression is an attack not only to Venezuela, not only to Latin Amerika, not only to the nations of the Third World, not only to the peoples of the Global South but to all humanity.
Today it was Venezuela, tomorrow who shall be next? Iran? China? Russia? Trump, without even hiding from any legality or civility has even has the galls and the thick face to threatened Columbian President Gustavo Petro to watch his ass. The latter responded by saying that: “I swore not to touch a weapon again… but for the homeland I will take up arms again.”
The most affected here is the so‑called rules‑based order, which is ironic since they are its promoters, along with the Unipolarity they boast of – now further crumbling because of their latest recklessness and brutality.
If they claim the power to simply interfere, enter, and occupy any country they wish, does this also mean that other powerful nations or empires have the same power to do so?
Trump said that they would govern and run Venezuela – does this mean that the Chinese could also do the same in Taiwan, or Putin in Ukraine?
This abnormal reality in power relations points to a very dangerous issue in global politics: if a powerful country claims it has the right to govern or interfere in another nation, does this open the door for other strong states to do the same?
In simple terms, this is the double standard often criticized in the so‑called rules‑based order. When a country like the United States declares it can rule Venezuela, the natural question arises: if so, why can’t China assert authority over Taiwan, or Putin over Ukraine?
In the words of Professor Noam Chomsky:
“Suppose that the perpetrators of the crime planned to, and did, impose a military dictatorship that killed thousands and tortured tens of thousands. Suppose the new dictatorship established, with the support of the criminals, an international terror center that helped install similar torture-and-terror states elsewhere, and, as the icing on the cake, brought in a team of economists—call them “the Kandahar Boys”—who quickly drove the economy into one of the worst depressions in its history. That, plainly, would have been a lot worse than 9/11. As we all should know, this is not a thought experiment. It happened. I am, of course, referring to what in Latin America is often called “the first 9/11”: September 11, 1973,”
I agree with the statement made by the comrades from Partido Lakas ng Masa (PLM):
There is only one word to describe the United States’ attack on Venezuela: criminal. Invading a sovereign country, bombing its cities, and kidnapping its elected president are crimes under international law. These actions are not an aberration – they express the true character of the US empire, which rules through war, coercion, and terror.
Humanity must oppose the criminal US attack on Venezuela and its continuing support of the genocide in Palestine.
There are a parallelism and similarity with both the Palestinian and the Venezuelan struggle. Both are fighting for national liberation and honor, and both are resisting imperialism and neocolonialism.
Our call
This attack must be opposed by all who claim to stand for peace.
Those on the Left who have disagreements with the Maduro government must set them aside and oppose imperialist aggression without qualification.
The assault on Venezuela is part of a wider global escalation. The United States has attacked Nigeria, threatened Iran, and continues to arm Israel as it carries out genocidal violence against Palestinians while bombing Lebanon and Syria. The world is being driven toward a broader war.
History shows where unchecked imperial aggression leads. The last time the world stood this close to catastrophe was when fascist powers invaded their neighbors with impunity. Those acts were rightly condemned as reckless and criminal. The same judgment applies today.
